About Joe:
At present Joe Escalante spends most of his time in radio and playing with the Vandals as well as the Sweet And Tender Hooligans, and running Kung Fu Records. Escalante received his B.A. from UCLA (Emphasis on Old Norse) and his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles where he specialized in anti-trust litigation. He is published in the field. Upon graduation in 1992, Escalante immediately took a job in the department of business affairs for the CBS Television Network as a talent and program negotiator. In 1996, Escalante left CBS to tour full time with his band and founded the independent record label, Kung Fu Records. To fund the label, Escalante opened a law practice and gradually built a roster of entertainment clients such as Sublime, artist Robert Wiliams, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, and Warped Tour owner Kevin Lyman. The Vandals (originally the first band signed to Epitaph Records) now call Kung Fu Records their home and perform regularly, schedule permitting around the world including performances in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan for the U.S. troops.
On June 10, 2005 Escalante launched a weekly radio program on Indie 1031 entitled “Barely Legal.” The caller driven show provides legal and professional advice for people trying to make it in show business. On May 5, 2006, Escalante was hired as the permanent host for the morning shift on Indie. The “Last Of The Famous International Morning Shows featured indie rock, classic punk and new wave, with daily sports reports from Deadwood’s Timothy Olyphant, and daily weather forecasts from avante-garde film director David Lynch.
An American of Mexican/Irish descent, Escalante lives with his wife Sandra in Seal Beach, California. He is an avid stand-up paddle surfer, enjoys daily mass, and Bullfighting.
